In 2012 the Brand Whitlock housing project in Toledo, Ohio was demolished. Some residents moved into neighborhoods using Section 8 housing vouchers, while others moved on to different housing projects. The emptying of the neighborhood could be tracked by the appearance of plywood in the windows of one apartment after the next. The site now stands vacant, with plans to build a new project with modern amenities.
